Whips are a large part of Bondage, and Domination, and Sado-masochistic play.  The Dominant (Dom) will often whip the Submissive (sub) recipient in order for the sub to achieve arousal from the pain that is inflicted from the whipping device.

Sex toys for BDSM(Bondage, Domination, Sado-masochism) consist of a wide variety, everything from standard sex toys such as vibrators, dildos/dongs, and strap-on devices. These toys can be used to bring the submissive right up to the point of orgasm, and then abruptly stop, or the erotic toys can be used to deliver forced orgasms.


The more specific toys in Bondage include: ropes, which can restrain the submissive (sub) participant. Collars, which can be used to lead the sub around at the Dominants (Dom) orders, or subsequently to restrain the sub to a harness either wall mounted, or on a table.



Whips are also a key element of bondage, and range from soft synthetic fibers to arouse sensitive parts such as the nipples, and scrotum, and outer vaginal lips, to hard leather, metal or wood which can be used on the back or buttocks. Gag balls, which are meant to be fastened around the sub to minimize noise and create a heightened sense of control for both participants, and handcuffs which can be used in tandem with harnesses, ropes or straps of various sorts to immobilize the submissive participant.



In terms of describing toys for Sado-masochism (S&M), many of the same adult toys from Bondage and Domination(B&D) can double for both, thus whips and flogs can be used just the same, but to exact more pain on the subject as is often the intended goal for S&M play.

Hot wax is also another item used for sado-masochists, as the wax heats up, the dom proceeds to pour the liquid wax over the sub which is a sensation that brings nerves to their high point from the heat of the melted wax.

High heels - primarily a male fantasy, can also be used as the dominatrix can step with varying amounts of pressure into areas the submissive has deemed acceptable. She can dig them into the back, and/or push them into his genitalia. The intended sensation for the sub here is that the receptors of pain and pleasure become mixed, and thus sexual arousal is achieved through otherwise untypical means.

Whips come in a variety of styles and fabrics and while not used often directly for sexual stimulation are still considered a sex toy; some are constructed of soft synthetic fibers, for mild play, and stimulation of erogenous zones.  Some that are of tougher leather, or even metal are made to inflict varying levels of pain on the sub.

Wooden planks are also a suitable device and popular for spanking the sub recipient typically across the buttocks. The use of flagellation (whips with many smaller ends for contact) can also be used to deliver damage across the back or chest of the submissive. This is usually, but not always, reserved for the SM category of BDSM as it allows the sub  - who may not necessarily have a higher pain threshold, but is wanting to experience pain as it is pleasing, sexually speaking for the participant.
