Sex Tapes, are films that one ore more person films themselves or with others engaging in sexual acts. This can include just dancing in alluring clothing, or a hardcore sex scene, and can involve more than just a couple, and in many cases of celebrities has involved more than one couple.

Sex tapes came to prevalence during the 80’s as the price for personal camcorders dropped, as well as the technology of VCR allowed people to record the tapes, and play them back without the need to have the film developed at a store where they ran the risk of having the film roll confiscated.

Generally Sex Tapes are divided into two categories, Amateur, and Celebrity. Amateur sex tapes are either classified because they are unpaid people engaging in a sex act and are just a ‘normal’ couple filming their sexual exploits in front of a camera.

A Celebrity Sex Tape is filmed by, or with famous, or people hoping to get famous by displaying their exploits on camera. In some cases, the tape is leaked by a former partner, or an undisclosed source; other times it is released by the star themselves in the hopes of gaining prominence because of the film.

Several stars had gained prominence because of their videos, featuring them with their partner or solo scenes with Sex Toys to demonstrate their orgasm and sexual abilities.

Celebrities, or stars wishing to hit the main stream have released or had their tape leaked which has launched them into the Superstar category.

The best-known case of this is Paris Hilton, who after having filmed her sexual escapades with then boyfriend Rick Salomon became extremely famous, having TV deals, and even a recording soundtrack.

Kim Kardashian is another socialite who after having her sex tape leaked – as she was previously only known as the daughter of a lawyer who represented O.J. Simpson, has subsequently received TV offers and now stars in her own reality TV show depicting the average day inside her family.
