Vibrator & Dildo Lubricant Guide for New Buyers

This is the Internet’s definitive guide for the toys listed on our website, as well as an adult Sex Toy (vibrator, dildo, dong, butt plug, strap-on, etc) you may have recently purchased, but are unsure of the lubricant type that can be used. Lubes and vibrators go hand in hand, and the incorrect lubricant can actually degrade the material, prematurely shortening the lifespan of the product.

Generally, the material is the deciding factor, as well as personal preference for the user; thus purchasing a toy made of a specific material that requires or limits lubricant options is not a wise choice.

There are several common materials used in Erotic Toys, which we will discuss further below, as well include what types of lubricants to use - and more importantly, should not be used. From there you can make your purchase decision an easier one knowing the options available for your toy.

They are 3 classifications of lubricant: Water-based, silicon-based, and oil-based and in the case of oil-based lube has more varied options, but are generally not for internal use.

Plastic:
Plastic materials common for waterproof vibrators can be used with all classes of lubricants, but water-based lubricants can’t be used in water, as it will simply wash away.

Latex: Common for dongs, dildos, and butt plugs these are compatible with silicone and water-based lubricants, but NOT petroleum/oil-based lubricants, most condoms are also made of latex and thus are incompatible with oil-based lube.

Jelly: a rather inexpensive type of material that is softer than plastic, but is porous and thus cannot be sterilized; Silicone and Water-based lubricants can be used.

Cyberskin: Water-based lubricants can be used, and it is NOT to be used with oil, or silicone-based lubricants, because of its composition.
TPE/TPR: Silicone and water-based lubricants can be used however, there is a bit of a sticky situation here in that, TPR Silicone materials used in a lot of toys can’t be used.

Silicone:
Silicone materials cannot be – quite paradoxically, cannot be used with silicon lubricants, as the lube will damage the material, leaving the device’s material constantly sticky, and eventually will be unusable.

Silicone is generally more expensive because of the quality of the material; note that many toys are mentioned as silicon when only a relatively small portion of the composition is in fact silicon. When purchasing a silicone toy, ensure that it is 100% Silicon, such as the Dolphin 16.
